Wheelchair lifts

Accessibility is a human right
According to the United Nations, accessibility is a human right. We adhere to the UN vision of a world where persons with disabilities should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. However, that vision is far from a reality. For example, most wheelchair users still encounter challenges and obstacles every day. That is where our lifts come in, because we specialise in wheelchair-friendly accessibility solutions that can really make a difference.

Finding the right wheelchair lift
Understanding your needs and getting an overview of your available options are the first steps to finding the right wheelchair lift. To offer guidance and support, we have shortlisted some of the most important questions for you to consider.
How big is your wheelchair?
Most manual wheelchairs are 700-800 mm wide and 1100-1200 mm long, but you should always measure. Do not forget to add some extra space for your elbows and feet.
What lift size do you need?
The right lift size is the one that will fit your wheelchair and needs. Wheelchair home lifts need a lift size of at least 1000 x 1300 mm, public lifts 1000 x 1400 mm (w x d).
Where can you place the doors?
For platform lifts, on the same side of the shaft, on opposite sides or at an 90° angle. For cabin lifts, doors can be placed on the same side or on opposite sides of the shaft.
How much landing space do you need?
In front of every lift door, you need to have a free floor space of at least 1500 x 1500 mm. However, to know for sure, measure the space you need to turn your wheelchair.
Where can you install a lift?
Your wheelchair lift can be placed in the staircase, against a mezzanine or run through the floors. Outdoor installation is yet another option. There is always a solution.
What accessories do you want?
Power door openers and remote call buttons make calling and accessing the lift much easier. Level indicators provide great visual aid. Explore our Options Brochure to discover more!
More wheelchair-friendly advice
Although it is impossible to cater to all individual accessibility needs with a few pieces of general advice, here are a few more points to consider:
- We recommend a door clearance width of at least 900 mm to make sure that the passage is wide enough for your wheelchair.
- For platform lifts with doors at a 90° angle, we recommend a size of 1100 x 1400 mm to make it easy to turn your wheelchair inside the lift.
- If your lift is installed without a pit, make sure to order an access ramp for the bottom floor to facilitate your entry and exit.
