Cibes Lift UK Welcomes Work Experience Student

Blog article
Lilie Todd – work experience student 2023

My name is Lilie Todd, I attend Cleeve Park school sixth form. I take three A-levels- English, philosophy and ethics, and sociology. I have a predicted grade of B’s in all three of these subjects. I am interested in a career in either advertising, digital marketing, PR, law or journalism. All three of these subjects give me a step up to the careers that interest me.

During my two weeks of work experience with Cibes Lift UK, I was introduced to the incredibly interesting world of digital marketing. I learnt so many new skills and so much more information on the subject, helping me to understand what a career in this sector would look like. My favourite activity of the two weeks was probably going out on site. I found this insightful and fully got to understand the job of a digital marketeer. My least favourite of the two weeks was probably taking the forty hour google digital garage course on the ‘fundamentals of digital marketing’ as it was very information heavy, however it was definitely worth it after completing and passing with 90%, with the ability to put this on my CV.

On day one of my work experience, I arrived at the Arts House and received my laptop with my log in details. I then got a tour of the office and met everyone, they were all lovely and incredibly helpful. After this, I spent about an hour learning how to use the editing website, canva, to make instagram posts for their social media platforms, this was relatively simple and was an easy skill to pick up- both Tilly and Ellie were helpful, making sure that I knew I could ask them if I did not understand something. I then spent the rest of the day researching the best hashtags to use, their social media pages, and the best times to post on each social media platform.

On day two, we visited a site where Cibes Lift UK had just installed a new lift. This was an incredible office in Canada Water. Both Tilly and Ellie were helpful with directions. This trip was very helpful to understand the different parts of digital marketing, and to explore which parts were my favourite. In the afternoon I was working from home and had an hour-long team meeting with Tilly, who guided me through making social media posts on Canva and creating a spreadsheet detailing the times and dates of when to post each one. On the morning of day three, I continued and finished three weeks worth of posts for Cibes US and Symmetry US, and in the afternoon I continued my 40 hour course.

On day 4, I finished the course and passed with 90%, I then (with help), used Canva to create a CV for myself. On day 5, I met with Ellie to go on site to the ‘Tate and Lyle sugar refinery’ to create a case study on the lifts that  are maintained for the factory. This was incredibly interesting as we got a tour of the factory and I got to look at the different types of lifts and wiring. On day 6, I did some research surrounding the history of the Tate and Lyle factory to put in the case study. After this, Tilly helped me to make a personal statement and I then made another week’s worth of social media posts for Cibes US and Symmetry US. On day 7, I started writing my Blog for the Cibes Lift UK website and in the afternoon I researched email marketing theory for preparation for day 8.

In conclusion, this experience was an incredibly helpful and enriching two weeks. I learnt so much and this was the push I needed to realise that I would like to pursue a career in digital marketing.
